MORNING AT BLAKENEY POINT WITH SEALS!!

Hello everyone!!

Blakeney Point is a National Natural Reserve situated near to the villages of Blakeney, Morston and Cley next the Sea on the north coast of Norfolk. Its main feature is a 6.4 km (4 mi) spit of shingle and sand dunes, but the reserve also includes salt marshes, tidal mudflats and reclaimed farmland. It has been managed by the National Trust since 1912, and lies within the North Norfolk Coast Site of Special Scientific Interest, which is additionally protected through Natura 2000, Special Protection Area (SPA), International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) and Ramsar listings. The reserve is part of both an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB), and a World Biosphere Reserve. The Point has been studied for more than a century, following pioneering ecological studies by botanist Francis Wall Oliver and a bird ringing programme initiated by ornithologist Emma Turner.

Once there, we were sailing on a boat and watching the seals!! It was really cold and windy, but we had a fantastic time. We had three dogs with us during the trip, which were really good company, though they we are asking for food all the time!! Hope you enjoy the pictures and the videos I took there! Blakeney Point es una Reserva Nacional Natural situada cerca de los pueblos de Blakeney, Morston y Cley next the Sea en la costa norte de Norfolk. Su principal atraccion son las 4 millas (6,4 Km) de dunas y guijarros, pero la reserva también incluye marismas y tierras de cultivo. Ha sido gestionada por el National Trust desde 1912, y se encuentra dentro de la North Norfolk Coast Site of Special Scientific Interest, que está protegida, además, a través de la red Natura 2000, Zona de Especial Protección (ZEPA), la Unión Internacional para la Conservación de la Naturaleza (UICN) y Ramsar. La reserva es parte de Zona de Excepcional Belleza Natural (AONB), y de la Reserva de la Biosfera. El punto se ha estudiado durante más de un siglo, a raíz de los pioneros estudios ecológicos realizados por el botánico Francisco Muro Oliver y gracias tambien a un programa de anillamiento iniciado por la ornitóloga Emma Turner.

Una vez allí, estuvimos navegando en un bote y viendo las focas!! Hacía mucho frío y mucho viento, pero nos lo pasamos en grande!! Tuvimos tres perros con nosotros durante el viaje, que eran muy buena compañía, a pesar de que nos estuvieron pidiendo comida todo el rato !!
